The Blackwood 8 community originally started in 2007 with a small group of 8 friends wanting to support a fellow friend, Sally White, in her fight against brain cancer. They realised that volunteering and supporting the wider community suffering from this disease, would not just help Sally in her personal battle, but would result in benefits to the whole brain cancer community.
This small group of volunteer’s quest was passionately supported by the local Wonga Park community, through a variety of events from the outset.
The establishment of Talking Heads Support Services in 2012 and the financial support provided by Blackwood 8 in the running of the annual Brain Cancer Action Week Community Forum, has subsequently expanded the reach of the Blackwood 8 community across all areas of Melbourne and Victoria, with some of our supporters also regularly attending our events from interstate.
The Blackwood 8 community includes everyday people from all walks of life, with one common thread – Brain Cancer.
Our dedicated volunteers seek to continue to raise funding for ongoing research and support services for those affected by Brain Cancer in a positive and fun environment.
